SLEIGH BELL SEASON
" ... Sleighs were a primary mode of transportation
during cold winter months and were extremely quiet. This imposed a safety hazard to unsuspecting pedestrians [and other
sleighs(rs)] who shared the same rustic roads. Law mandated that sleighs have sleigh bells to warn those nearby.
[Unsubstantiated rumor has it that the first such law, to
prevent collisions at intersections, was passed in Cleveland, OH]
