SO THEY SAY ~ ~ ~
"Half of the American people have never read a newspaper.  Half never voted for president.  One hopes it is the same half."  ~~ Gore Vidal

SLEIGH BELL SEASON
How did "sleigh bells" get started?  This is a quote from the website for East Hampton, CT, "Belltown USA"  [for this site , click on > http://www.easthamptonct.org/history/belltown.htm ]
" ... Sleighs were a primary mode of transportation during cold winter months and were extremely quiet.  This imposed a safety hazard to unsuspecting pedestrians [and other sleighs(rs)] who shared the same rustic roads.  Law mandated that sleighs have sleigh bells to warn those nearby. ... "
[Unsubstantiated rumor has it that the first such law, to prevent collisions at intersections, was passed in Cleveland, OH]
